Students who have taken Spanish before college and plan to continue at Hopkins must take the departmental placement exam before registering for a Spanish class. This exam is available online year-round; for the most accurate placement recommendation, take it just before the semester you actually plan to study the language. This multiple-choice exam is individualized (self-adjusting to the student’s level) and is not timed. You may only take the Spanish placement test once.
Steps to Register for a Spanish Class
- Take the Spanish placement test here.
- When you have finished the exam, contact Professor Loreto Sánchez to inform her that you have taken the test and to request registration clearance for the course that matches your score. She will contact the Registrar’s Office to convey permission for you to register.
If you have successfully taken the pre-requisite courses for the class, you do not need to take the placement test.
